This is a somewhat uninspiring look at the events of 1776. McCullough jumps right into the fray without a lot of intro material and the book ends as abruptly as it begins. This is probably fine since most Americans are familiar with the events leading up to the War for Independence and we all know the outcome, but it did feel a bit odd to me. McCullough did pull in some perspective from the British side, but the overall treatment of the year 1776 seemed very brief. This is a book I've had on my list to read for a number of years and I am glad that I finally read it, but it will not be a book I read or refer to again.
