A good book by author David McCullough, who is very good at writing history, but I preferred John Adams, which was also written by him concerning the same era in American history.
1776 is more about the war that was fought and led by George Washington, rather than the Declaration of Independance, which was also made that year and covered more in John Adams.
There are a lot of people to keep track of in this book, but if you can keep track of the five main ones including Washington, Knox, Greene and some others, you should have no trouble following this story. I especially liked the last 50 pages or so, when McCullough describes the last fights on the Hudson River and in Trenton, New Jersey.
I recommend this book to any fan of history. Well done.
