Liked it. Didn't love it. The excerpts from journals and letters were the best. I think he kind of missed something. It's like a snapshot from a long war. The Americans are losing when you start the book and they are pretty much still losing when you finish the book, so focusing a book on just one year doesn't make a very good narrative.
