In short, this book was very informative and had lots of information about the beginning of the Revolutionary War. I was able to learn a lot and see this world in more realistic and detailed account compared to the general and somewhat whitewashed and glorified accounts that the average American grows up learning.

One of the most interesting facts that I learned was the fact that Nathan Hale, the who had the quotable quote of "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country," was actually quite foolish. As a verbose man who didn't know when to keep his mouth shut, he decided to head into New York City to spy on the British despite the repeated objections from his friends. He was quickly discovered and executed by the British.

What drops this book down to only three stars is the fact the majority of the writing is done is a quite traditional "history textbook fashion". Lots of facts and events are presented, but the style of delivery makes it dry and hard to get excited about. I've read other historical books that can captivate the reader and make them feel as if they are apart of the time period they are learning about.
