I read this book because of my interest in American history, but I found the writing style to be very cumbersome. The author attempted to illustrate the difficulties that Soldiers and civilians went through during this time by pointing them out over and over again in a manner so repetitive as to be tedious. I have a great deal of admiration for the author, but it seemed at times during the book he was just writing for no other purpose than the sake of putting words on the page. Overall, I was very disappointed with this book.
