Some parts of this book flow and read like a novel. Unfortunately this only applies to about 25% of the book. It took me three attempts to finally make it through (the first two times I made it through the first 150 pages or so). For some reason I felt that this book was so critically acclaimed that I had to push through it to understand what the fuss was about. I'm a big fan of history and there were certainly some gems in this book in terms of stories I had never heard. I just wish it was a little more concise.
