I am glad I read this book, as I learned a lot, but there were several things I did not like about it. First, as someone who didn't pay real close attention in school, I felt the book was lacking a lot of background info that was necessary to provide better context. While I appreciate the attempt to keep it on the shorter side, focusing only on this first year of the Revolutionary War, it assumes the reader understands a lot about the background information about the time. I also found my self constantly going to Google Maps to get a better understanding of the geographical area, as there were no illustrations to provide this information (at least in the Kindle version).

I also found it hard to keep all the different individuals involved in the story straight, probably because most of them were not really set up in a way that made them memorable characters.

Finally, although this just a personal preferrence, the chapters way too long in my opinion. Breaking them up into smaller sections would not only have made the book easier to read, but would also have helped with following along with the overall story.

The long chapters are not great for my reading style (which doesn't often allow for an hour+ to knock out a chapter), and sometimes I wish there was a bit more backstory to put some elements of the story in better perspective. However, I am enjoying the book."
